Lutheran Social Services of Nevada partners with Reformation Lutheran Church to Launch Senior Meal Program
Program offers daily lunches for low-income seniors
LAS VEGAS, NV – April 13, 2015 – Lutheran Social Services of Nevada (LSSN) and Reformation Lutheran Church announce the launch of the Heart of the City Senior Meal program. Meals are served daily at 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. at Reformation Lutheran Church located at 580 E. St. Louis Ave. Seniors 60 and older eat for free or by donation; non-seniors 59 and under may dine for a suggested $5 donation. Menu options change daily and include a variety of tasty nutritious dishes ranging from country-fried steak to tacos to chicken cacciatore to catfish po’boys. Menu is available online at www.lssnv.org.
LSSN partnered with Reformation Lutheran Church to help seniors in the Las Vegas valley have a place to congregate together and build a sense of community while offering nutritious meals.
“We are excited to partner with Reformation Lutheran Church to offer local low income seniors a place to socialize, gather, and break bread together,” said Armena Mnatsakanyan, executive director of Lutheran Social Services of Southern Nevada. “People helping people in need is what LSSN is all about. And believe me, the need – especially here in Southern Nevada – has never been greater.”
Reducing hunger is a central part of LSSN’s ministry. LSSN offers a client-choice supermarket style food pantry that serves over 15,000 households annually, and a signature Open Air Market that provides up to 300 households with fresh fruit and vegetables. Beyond the food pantry and Open Air Markets, LSSN offers housing assistance, employment support, transitional housing and home-care services. Services are provided to respect and empower individuals to help themselves.
LSSN and Reformation Church need volunteers willing to obtain their Safeserv certification and food handler card to assist with the Heart of the City Senior Meal program. Interested volunteers should contact Marisa Cervantes at marisa@lssnv.org or call 702.639.1730.
