SAN DIEGO, CA – April 7, 2016 – Sedation Dental Center, specializing in treating patients with special needs, will offer patients with Autism a free exam during Autism Awareness Month in April. Additionally, for those patients requiring any follow-up treatment, Sedation Dental Center will offer a voucher for 15% off all dental work provided under IV sedation.

Patients with special needs are more at-risk for developing oral diseases throughout their lifetime due to cognitive or physical limitations to perform adequate self-care, but this can be avoided or the onset prolonged with routine dental visits. Oftentimes the experience of going to a dentist can be especially debilitating, especially if the patient doesn’t understand why they are there or what treatment will be performed. Additionally, cost of care can sometimes be a barrier to receiving preventative treatment.

“People with Autism are already facing many challenges, oral diseases shouldn’t have to be one of them,” said Dr. Steven Delisle. “It’s important to prevent or catch these diseases early on, so I’m breaking down some of the emotional and logistical barriers to these patients receiving the right preventative care by offering a free exam during Autism Awareness Month.”

After growing up with an aunt who had Cerebral Palsy, Dr. Steven Delisle understands first-hand some of the obstacles patients with special needs face. Dr. Delisle puts a priority on, and is especially gifted at, creating an environment where patients can receive necessary dental care without experiencing the anxiety that is often associated with dental procedures. About Dr. Steven Delisle
Dr. Steven Delisle is a board certified Dentist Anesthesiologist. He started his education at the University of San Diego where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. After graduating from dental school at the University of Washington, Dr. Delisle enrolled in Anesthesia residency at Loma Linda University, where he treated over 2,000 special needs and pediatric patients under general anesthesia.

Dr. Delisie’s education and training uniquely qualify him to treat children and adults with special needs, such as Down Syndrome, Autism, dental anxiety, diabetes and cerebral palsy.
