Andson to Host Annual Faces of the Future Breakfast on Feb. 28, 2017

Local leaders in academic, financial, and political arenas gather to honor those who have made a difference in Andson’s programs and the Southern Nevada community.

WHAT:
Andson, a leading non-profit educational organization in Southern Nevada, will honor some of Las Vegas’ top leaders in education and financial literacy during the Faces of the Future Breakfast on Tuesday, February 28, 2017. The event will be held at the South Point Hotel & Casino’s Brunswick Room, with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m., and breakfast and program beginning at 8.00 a.m.

The Faces of the Future Breakfast brings together leaders in local academic, financial and political fields to increase awareness of education and financial literacy issues faced in Southern Nevada, while honoring those who are paving the way for advancements in these areas. The event will feature a keynote speech from local visionary Punam Mathur. Andson will also the following honor leaders in three categories:

  • Faces of Education – Dr. Christy Beaird, principal at Laura Dearing ES, and Ben Salkowe, founding principal at Equipo Academy.
  • Faces of the Future – Honoring students from Andson’s Financial Literacy and Academic Programs.
  • Faces of Empowerment – Las Vegas Clark County Library District & Foundation.

Andson is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating, informing, and inspiring youth and young adults by delivering innovative programs in academics, financial literacy and mentoring.

Punam Mathur

Punam Mathur has served as a leader helping to shape the face of Las Vegas community for more than two decades, holding executive positions at NV Energy and MGM MIRAGE (Now MGM Resorts International.  Currently, Mathur operates her own business as a speaker, trainer and writer. She also serves as executive director of the Elaine P. Wynn & Family Foundation, a private foundation that exists to advance fundamental change, primarily related to equity, civil rights and conservation.

In addition to her professional career, Mathur has received appointments to statewide leadership positions by Nevada’s last four Governors; working to improve education, tourism and welfare reform. A champion and advocate for public education, she has a long history of involvement with the Clark County School District, the fifth largest district in the nation, having served on a lengthy list of committees and special task forces over the years.

During the 2015-2016 school year, Andson provided academic assistance and personal finance lessons to over 15,000 students. These services are offered at no cost to families, and made possible by way of grants, donations and collaboration with organizations such as Boys & Girls Clubs, After-School All Stars, Communities in Schools, St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, Clark County School District, Lincoln County School District, Las Vegas Clark County Libraries and the City of Las Vegas.
